Tencent and Activision have revealed that Call of Duty: Mobile is coming to the West, and the mobile iteration of their iconic shooter is said to feature equally as iconic maps and characters once it launches on iOS and Android devices.
Call of Duty: Mobile is, of course, a free-to-play mobile game that's already available in China, but the two think it's ready to be unleashed upon the rest of the world.
We're not sure about the exact timing, however, but Activision Blizzard will share more in the coming months. They seem to be planning for iOS launch first, followed by an Android one, judging by the wording but if you're keen on doing some beta testing, you can pre-register.
As far as content goes, Activision Blizzard wrote, "Call of Duty: Mobile is a new, standalone mobile title that features a collection of fan-favorite maps, competitive game modes, familiar characters and signature weapons from across our beloved franchises, including Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, into one epic experience."
Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy, Nuketown, Crash, Hijacked - Call of Duty: Mobile has basically packed everything that could be considered a fan favourite in a smaller, mobile footprint.
Although not specifically confirmed, Call of Duty: Mobile seems like it will come with Blackout, at least if the last part of the trailer is to be believed. As you can see - large choppers transporting troops to the field? What else would it be?
Tencent and Activision Blizzard made sure some iconic characters from the Call of Duty franchise make their appearance in Call of Duty: Mobile, and the game will see the return of Ghost, captain Price, Thomas Merrick and a few others.
According to Tencent's deal with Activision Blizzard, the former has the rights to distribution of Call of Duty in mainland China, but it seems Kotick and Co trust them enough for global distribution as well, at least when it comes to mobile.
