The Division 2 has finally launched and Ubisoft's shooter has debuted in first place in UK's retail, albeit with a result that would be extremely worrying for Ubi were it not for the fact we're talking about physical sales here only.

Naturally, The Division 2 is an online game so it's not surprising to see its boxed copies suffer underwhelming sales, although 20 per cent of The Division's sales still sounds a bit too low.

Nevertheless, the general trend of video game sales has been shifting to digital for a while now and just about every release seems to be suffering the same fate nowadays, with a few notable exceptions here and there.

The Division 2 is the only newcomer to the top 10 and its retail fortunes have been most helped by the Playstation 4 crowd, which snapped up 60 per cent of the sales, while the rest is on Xbox One.

Last week's winner Devil May Cry 5 dropping as much as five places after a 76 per cent drop in sales compared to the week before. No need to panic as this sort of performance is expected in the second week on the shelves.

Speaking of notable exceptions to the aforementioned digital trends, Red Dead Redemption 2 has seen a 22 per cent increase in sales. Rockstar's masterpiece has been helped by some retail discounts but it still wasn't enough to get back into first place for another stint at the top.

GTA V too has been on the receiving end of retail discounts and the 5+-year-old game has leapfrogged a bunch of competitors by jumping from tenth to third place. Discount or no discount - this is the sort of longevity that many game companies dream of.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has dropped four places and now sits in seventh place, owing to the 22 per cent on-week drop in sales and some competitor performance. The rest of the list looks like this:

  • The Division 2
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • FIFA 19
  • The Lego Movie 2: Videogame
