Fortnite: Battle Royale has received its first update since the start of Season 8 and Epic are sticking with the swashbuckling spirit by introducing Buried Treasure - maps that will lead you to loot that's hidden across the island.
The treasure in question is a chest chock full of legendary loot and once you find the X that marks the spot, you've got to dig it out using the pickaxe.
Buried Treasure maps are, of course, legendary items and players are limited to a single map at a time. It can be found in floor loot and chests but looks like a pretty clever way to make sure everyone plays along with Season 8 and acts all pirate-y.
In terms of gameplay, there was a single change as Epic "increased the angle at which you can slide down terrain without taking damage from 65 degrees to 75 degrees."
Epic slightly decreased the chance of getting Infantry Rifles and Clingers, although the latter seems to have taken a bigger dip. Also, Bottle Rockets have been vaulted as of Fortnite's 8.01 update.
Fortnite: Battle Royale's limited time mode Slide Duos will see players sliding around, as everyone has ice blocks on their feet. Moreover, everyone gets infinite ammo Grapplers, so you get the picture.
Slide Duos comes with lower friction in the in-game world, a bump in the maximum run speed and does away with fall damage, which when compounded with infinite ammo Grapplers means some hectic, breakneck fun.
Fortnite: Battle Royale has got a new tournament - Gauntlet Solo Test Event & Gauntlet Duo Test Even, which will be held in a single session that lasts until 09 March 2019 00:00 GMT. That's of course unless you qualify to the finals.
Considering that Epic said how each month Fortnite: Battle Royale players will receive $1 million in total prize money via various tournaments, it might be worth to consider putting in some practice time.
