Epic Games have finally rolled out the v8.0 update to Fortnite: Battle Royale, which means that the Season 8 has begun and the dev went for the Caribbean pirate theme this time, along with a new weapon, two new POIs, new Battle Pass, etc.

We'll start from the loudest of the bunch, which in this case is the Pirate Cannon and once you've got it in position, you can chuck cannonballs as well as players across Fortnite's map.

Needless to say, once launched, projectiles will take a while to come to a full stop, which means damage, and knockbacks for those that survive it.

A direct hit from the Pirate Cannon deals 100 damage and the splash damage is half that, with a pretty small radius too. It can be found anywhere - piracy is what Season 8 is about.

While we're on the subject of weapons, Epic reduced the availability of high tier Assault Rifles, where Rare and Epic variants took the biggest hits of 5 and 3.5 per cent, respectively. In the case of Epic assault rifles, it was actually halved.

Of course, the most obvious change is the map itself, as there are new places to explore, such as Sunny Steps and Lazy Lagoon, both of whom are still on the South American continent. Heck, the Lagoon looks like it's related to Moisty Mires and Sea of Thieves simultaneously.

Thanks to the erupting volcano, Fortnite's map now sports Volcanic Vents, which give players a boost and make travelling a breeze. Same goes for the volcano, although touching lava will cause you to bounce and lose 1HP.

As far as modes go, Fortnite is currently running 50v50 and Close Encounters modes, so group fighting and the shotgun-jetpack combo mode.

End of Fortnite's Season 7 means that a bunch of things are getting vaulted, and the list includes Sneaky Snowmen, Chiller Grenades, X-4 Stormwings, Shopping Carts and All Terrain Carts.

As usual, the Season 8 update brings a bunch of bug fixes and minor changes, all of which you can find on the official Fortnite website here.
