Neill Blomkamp, the man behind District 9 and Chappie, isn't quite the name you'd readily associate with gaming, his visit to Creative Assembly ended up being exactly that, as the company revealed they're working on a first-person shooter.

We're not exactly sure how it came about Blomkamp's visit but Creative Assembly were pretty stoked about it. The news ultimately came via Twitter, as the dev posted a group photo saying, "Neill Blomkamp dropped by CA HQ for a behind-the-scenes look at the development of our brand-new FPS IP!"

There's very little to go by at the moment as Creative Assembly have been keeping the new IP under tight wraps. Nevertheless, a job advertisement on their website says they're hiring for a "brand-new and exciting first person tactical shooter IP".

Of course, Creative Assembly isn't quite the first name to spring to mind when talking about first-person shooters. The company has been almost synonymous with strategy games, unsurprisingly so considering they've kept the Total War flame going for 18 years and counting.

If, however, you think that's all they wrote, then you obviously don't remember Alien: Isolation, Creative Assembly's gorgeous survival horror from 2014, which somehow slipped through the cracks for many.

Much has been said about their take on Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic and most seem to agree that it's a more credible take on the Alien franchise than its latest sequels. Prequels, whatever, nobody cares.

Interestingly, Blomkamp claims to be a fan too, as he discovered Alien: Isolation while researching for his then-upcoming gig on the iconic franchise. Alien 5 was ultimately cancelled so as not to conflict with Scott's prequels but Blomkamp says he looked closely at Alien: Isolation, complimenting the team on masterfully done visuals.

It isn't every day that a movie director compliments a gaming company and it really says enough about Alien: Isolation. As for the new title, we'll be keeping an eye out for Creative Assembly's new tactical shooter.
