Even though the initial plan was to launch the game on 29 January, DayBreak Games ultimately decided they'll be delaying Planetside Arena to 26 March 2019, while the game's closed beta is scheduled for next week - 30 January 2018.
The company have been playtesting Planetside Arena behind closed doors for a few months now, helped by "a small core group of players" from the Planetside community.
DayBreak claim to have done plenty of tweaks to ensure that Planetside Arena is up to scratch, but in the end decided to leave the launch for March 2019. The reason for this is so they can have enough time "to supplement [the] feature set, fully optimize engine performance, and improve server infrastructure".
As for the closed beta, DayBreak will be expanding their core testing group and plan to stress test their gear to the limit. As it's usually the case at this stage, these stress tests mean that Planetside Arena players will run into occasional lagging, bugs and other hiccups.
On the other hand, Planetside 2, which is the game Planetside Arena was built off of, has a reputation for massive player numbers, so it's safe to say that if you run into glitches - they're probably intentional. Well, mostly.
DayBreak Games also announced the Founders Season, which provides everyone who pre-ordered Planetside Arena with early access from 20 February 2019. This offer also includes the Battle Pass for Season 1, which kicks off on 26 March 2019.
As for the game's arsenal, DayBreak promise that Planetside veterans will definitely find their favourites, even though almost every weapon has been reskinned, retouched, rebalanced or all three. Much like the original game, weapons will come with a bunch of attachments, which significantly affect how each weapon handles.
Along with Planetside 2's standard roster of vehicles, which are Harasser dune-buggies and Flash quad-bikes, DayBreak added a brand new combat-oriented, manoeuvrable vehicle - the Tempest. The Flash's grip has been tweaked too, which already looks like a lot of fun.
