Heroic Leap Games will host Realm Royale's open beta tests on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting on 22 January 2019. The contents will be the same as in the closed beta with some minor updates to general stability and performance.
Realm Royale will be available to everyone through open beta on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The developer officially confirmed the info and announced a couple of minor changes that are coming with the open beta.
This will be the first free-for-everyone beta since the game landed on consoles in 2018. Until now, only those with special invite codes could participate in the closed beta tests.
Players will get to try out Heroic Leap's take on the battle royale genre starting 22 January 2019. The developer didn't confirm the end date, so it's safe to assume that Realm Royale will probably run in open beta for quite some time.
Other than that, there isn't much info available. The only thing which the developers confirmed is a small patch, which will go live with the open beta. The patch will bring some minor improvements to general stability and game performance.
Realm Royale launched through Steam's early access back on 5 June 2018. It's a spinoff of the shooter Paladins, where it originated as a game mode dubbed Paladins: Battlegrounds. It allowed players to craft gear and weapons trough Forge which is a unique addition to the genre.
After a successful launch and some initial support from popular Twitch streamers such as Ninja and Shroud, Realm Royale reached a peak of over 100,000 players. Unfortunately, the numbers dipped just two months later and the game lost around 95 per cent of the player base on Steam, and removing classes didn't help one bit.
However, Realm Royale endured the hard period and player numbers are climbing once again. Of course, they are nowhere near the 100,000 mark but in the last two months, the numbers rose 15 per cent which shows a slow but steady comeback for Heroic Leap's title.
Whether the open beta helps the overall numbers rise even more remains to be seen, but the developer is hoping that Realm Royale will eventually become a big hit, as they're getting ready to release more content in 2019.
