Konami seem to have developed a taste for micro-transaction laden Lite editions, as the company followed up on 2018's free to play edition of their popular football simulation with a new iteration - Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 Lite.

We're talking about a stripped down version of the actual PES 2019 that comes with offline training and exhibition matches, as well as the PES League mode, which allows for 1v1 and co-op matches. The same mode allows for 3v3 co-op in a quest to become world champions.

PES 2019 Lite comes with a proper edit mode, which you'll find useful should you decide to customise your team. As usual, everything from badges to stadiums can be tweaked to your liking.

Much like its predecessor though, PES 2019 Lite is mostly geared towards the MyClub mode and fantasy football type of gameplay. Players will be assembling a perfect team from the current crop of players, as well as legendary ones.

As you can see from the trailer, Konami are teasing fans with the giants of old such as Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Roberto Carlos, Oliver Kahn and a bunch more. That should be the first batch only though and the team will be adding more throughout PES 2019 Lite's maiden season.

PES 2019 Lite uses Feature Player mechanics, whereby players' stats are adjusted in accordance with their performance over the weekend. This means that you're almost forced into constantly playing, and hopefully winning, so as to maintain any semblance of a serious competitor.

In practice though, it's likely that many PES 2019 Lite players will reach for their wallets to sponsor their teams. This means that there's bound to be a glass ceiling on just how far you may go for free before having to fork over some cash.

Konami will also get a chance to fix the mistakes from PES 2018 Lite, which hasn't really gone down great on Steam.

Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 Lite is available on PC via Steam as well as on PlayStation 4 and Xbox.
