PUBG's new snow map revealed, now live on test servers

Vikendi is the name of new snow-themed PUBG map that has been officially revealed on The Games Awards. The map is live on the test servers and will launch on 19 December 2018 for PC and in January 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Players will finally get the chance to test their battle-royale skills on new snow-themed PUBG map, which has been revealed on The Games Awards show last night. The new map is called Vikendi and with its 6x6 size, it's bigger than Sanhok, which is a 4x4 map, but smaller than Erangel, which is 8x8.

PUBG's world art director Dave Curd shed more light on Vikendi in a recent interview and their main goal was to cater to hardcore fans who prefer smaller maps and those who would rather focus on survival than combat. "We wanted something that tries to bridge the gap between our competitive hardcore hot dropping 4x4 fans, and our more patient survival-oriented players of the 8x8", Curd said.

The map is set in Slovenia's frozen wasteland and it will feature a lot of European architecture, two big cities, Dino Park with roller coasters and a labyrinth, where players can explore, fight and loot.

Additionally, Vikendi's nature will play a big part on your quest for the chicken dinner. Players will leave tracks in the snow but they will fade away after some time.

The plan is to implement it so that players can track others and/or know when someone is very close. Along with that, Vikendi will feature frozen lakes and dense forests for hide and seek play. According to PUBG's world art director, the foliage on Vikendi is the thickest they ever created in PUBG.

Curd also talked about the weather system. Currently, they're experimenting with a couple of options and players can expect at least light snow conditions at launch. The new map will include a new weapon and snowmobiles for easier travel through snowy wastelands.

Vikendi is live right now on test servers and will have a its full PC release on 19 December 2018. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users will have to wait a little bit more as the console launch is scheduled for January 2019.
