Rockstar's new monster Red Dead Redemption 2 has managed to retain first place in the UK's boxed sales chart ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, greatly helped by the uneventful week that had no new releases making it in the top 10.

Granted, Red Dead Redemption 2 sales dropped by as much as 53 per cent compared to the week before, but this sort of drop is expected for third-week sales. With that in mind, the numbers are actually pretty good all things considered.

Speaking of numbers, Rockstar, or more precisely Take-Two Interactive, the game's publisher, recently revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 outsold the original's eight years of sales in just eight days on the market.

Having racked up 725 million in the opening weekend alone, the game is quickly reaching GTA levels of popularity, with the world plus Western dog talking about it. Nevertheless, the only reason why it's opening weekend sales beat GTA V's is that it launched on a Friday. Considering that GTA's Tuesday launch couldn't put it off making a billion dollars in its first three days, we imagine Take-Two and Rockstar are living the dream.

The remainder of the list remains uneventful for the most part, except for Football Manager 2019, which slipped out of the top 10. It's been replaced by LEGO DC Super Villains, while the rest of the list is a rearranged version of last week's.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, FIFA 19 and Forza Horizon 4 retained second, third and fourth spots, respectively, with CoD said to have edged FIFA by just a few hundred copies. Marvel's Spider-Man climbed up a single place and now sits in fifth, becoming a mainstay of the chart - a true testament to the game's quality.

As usual, take note that we're talking about boxed sales, which have been showing a steady decline at the expense of digital distribution methods, so treat it as more of an indicator of trends rather than a hard fact.

That being said, the top 10 physical releases in the UK are:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  • FIFA 19
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Spider-Man
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
  • Assassin's Creed: Odyssey
  • LEGO Harry Potter Collection
  • LEGO DC Super-Villains
