Red Dead Redemption 2 dethrones CoD: Black Ops 4 in the UK

While the controls of the game do feel clunky at times, they're nowhere near game-breaking.

I'm not really sure there's an empirical possibility of anyone being surprised at this outcome, with Red Dead Redemption 2 headlines ranging from the dreaded crunch to the parts of Arthur's horse you don't really want to be focusing on.

Of course, the UK chart doesn't include digital sales of Red Dead Redemption 2, which tend to make up for most sales these days, which actually paints an even better picture. There are still people who're looking for keepsies and RDR2 is one of those games.

To make matters even better for Rockstar, the UK chart has shown a trend of games falling short of their predecessors, again indicating the age of digital, but Red Dead Redemption 2 sure didn't seem to care. Its opening week sales almost doubled the original's sales, so all's well in Rockstar. Well, almost all.

This week actually sees Red Redemption as the only newcomer to the top 10, although all things considered - who'd want to launch next to them. The rest of the list is basically last week reshuffled but we have a few honourable mentions.

Quite expectedly perhaps, Arthur Morgan's story sits as the second fastest selling game of the year. The fastest selling one remains FIFA 19, a testament to how low gaming standards and the love of footy can actually encourage lazy yet expensive game development.

Last week's Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is doing well, having slid once spot to accommodate Red Dead Redemption, followed by FIFA 19. Forza Horizon 4 is keeping up its impressive results as well, climbing up one place to fourth. The arrival of its long-awaited route creator recently has expanded the game significantly, making it a gift that keeps on giving.

It is said that physical sales will pick up significantly, what with the Christmas shopping sprees and all, but until then - this week's top 10 of the UK's all-formats chart are:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  • FIFA 19
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Assassin's Creed: Odyssey
  • Spider-Man
  • Lego DC Super-Villains
  • Super Mario Party
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
