Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode, Blackout, managed to make a positive impression so far and one of the few that were negative was the 80 player restriction per session. The full release might have up to 115 players per match.

David Vonderhaar, the game design director at Treyarch, recently had an interview where it was fans asking the questions. One of the more recurring questions was about game size in Blackout mode as battle royale giants PUBG and Fortnite set the standard to be 100 players, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's take on the genre initially featured a 80 player cap.

This cap was moved up to 88 during the beta, and eventually up to 100 during the last hours of the preview. Self proclaimed Lord Vonderhaar eventually confirmed that servers were stable even with 100 players in a match, and stated that Treyarch wants to go further. Fifteen per cent further that is.

Apparently, some events in Blackout will feature up to 115 players, probably in a manner similar to Fortnite's Limited Time Modes or PUBG's Event Modes. The number itself is rather iconic for Call of Duty series, initially used in Zombies lore, but it is sort of its own meme these days.

While it's hard to imagine Blackout reaching the heights of Fortnite or even PUBG's prime, the intention is definitely there as developers have been actively communicating with the community the past few days.

It probably doesn't hurt that a decent chunk of the community threw heaps of praise at Treyarch either, with even big names in the world of streaming, such as DrDisRespect, enjoying the game thoroughly. The two time champion even went so far as to dis Red Dead Redemption 2 during his Blackout-induced hype.

Considering the developers pretty much addressed the main issue fans had with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout even before the game got released, it is safe to say it might actually even turn out that Call of Duty gets an exciting entry this year.
