Blazing Core is an upcoming mech fighting game by a fairly young Russian developer studio, OctoBox Interactive. The game is going to enter open beta on 07 September 2018 and anyone can sign up to participate. Here is how, when and where.
OctoBox Interactive was founded in 2016, St. Petersburg, Russia. That means the studio has less than two years under their belt. And yet, they are now deep into development cycle of what seems to be the prettiest mech game to date.
Judging from the screenshots and the trailer embedded above, Blazing Core will be a third person experience, rather than first person that was utilised in HAWKEN and MechWarrior series.
OctoBox seem to be putting a lot of focus on customisation in Blazing Core as they are putting it up as one of the game's main features and there are many options presented in the trailer. It seems that the narrative will be once again a mix of chivalry and mechs, just like it is in MechWarrior and BattleTech series.
As far as gameplay goes, tactics will likely be more important than a player's mechanics as the official Steam page states that "your skills at combining the character's abilities effectively are more important than your refelxes". The tactics aspect will not stop at just choosing the best loadout though, as squad play also seems to be highly emphasised, since the page also states that "mindless rushes" will always be crushed by teamwork and tactics.
There will be some sort of progression system where players will need to unlock new weapons in order to warrant gameplay variety. It is not clear at this point whether the game's monetization will include these weapons, or just the cosmetic options.
One important thing to note is that while customisation will be extensive, there are parts of the announcement that hint at this being a hero shooter of sorts, since different mech heroes are mentioned several times. If this seems like your cup of tea, you might want to sign up for the open beta on the game's official website.
