Epic Games have decided to shake things up in terms of Fortnite: Battle Royale's sneakiness by adding a thermal scoped assault rifle and although we don't have many specifics, do you really need 'em? Sniper Shootout LTM is back as well.
The thermal scoped assault rifle comes as part of Fortnite: Battle Royale v4.4. Much like the LMG, the thermal anti-camper doesn't seem like too much of a technical challenge to implement, yet it has the potential to significantly alter many a game.
Fortnite's new gun deals 36-37 damage, depending on its two variants - epic and legendary. As you can see, it's not like they'll be the most common of items in the game, so your stealth game is still safe for the most part. Or is it?
Interestingly, it's not only enemies that the gun can see. Fortnite's thermal scoped rifle can help you locate chests and supply drops, so its actually more useful than one would initially think. It uses medium ammo and can be found pretty much anywhere, including floor loot.
I like this move by Epic because even though Fortnite has never shied away from sneakiness, it's nowhere nearly as important as it tends to be in the likes of PUBG. It's exactly this unrealistic component that played a big part in Fortnite's popularisation, along with a few other equally unrealistic features, so we guess that a little arcade-style foreshadowing won't hurt anyone. Or will it?
Fortnite's v4.4 update marks the return of two limited time modes, both in their third iteration. We're talking about Sniper Shootout v3 and 50v50 V3. As you could've guessed, the thermal scoped assault rifle is likely to feature heavily in the former. On second thought, it definitely won't hurt to have one thermal guy during 50v50 V3 either.
The 50v50 V3 mode brings some interesting tweaks, such as battle lines. Seeing as how each team get their own buss, points of contact across the map will be dynamically altered to warn players when they're likely to run into trouble. Or get their thermal scoped assault rifle out at least.
