Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Day One edition is out for Nintendo Switch now. This is a limited edition of the game that will be sold at select retailers only according to XSEED Games, only sold in US stores and it will cost $39,99.
The Ultimate Day One Edition will not appear on any other platforms as it will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. That said, Switch players will get the game's 30-song soundtrack dubbed "Risky Beats" on CD, a 100-page art book which is 96 actual pages and four cover pages and Pirate Queen's Quest, Costume Pack and Friends to the End DLC packs.
The Pirate Queen's Quest will have players playing as Risky Boots instead of Shantae, complete with new progression, weapons and gadgets. Risky Boots' quest begins after she has stolen a powerful Dynamo from Shantae's uncle as she sets out to find five components she needs to upgrade the machine and conquer the Sequin Land.
A Costume Pack is fairly self explanatory while Friends to the End DLC is another adventure which involves Shantae's buddies Sky, Bolo and Rottytops into her nightmare. They will need to find and save her from "certain doom" using their skills and abilities. Outfits included in Costume Pack are Ninja Shantae, Beach Shantae and Officer Shantae.
All of her outfits, including the default one are fairly skimpy, but Beach Shantae takes the crown. This, however, puts a question mark over the developers and publishers' art style decisions and who their target audience was.
The game at first looks like a beautiful little cartoony platformer but the amount of breast display in the game can almost rival Conan Exiles. Granted, this is not full frontal nudity, but the picture below shouldn't exactly be aimed at children, so it is expected that Switch's parental control features will see a lot of use in the future.
Reviews on Steam are also warning the potential new players about the game length, suggesting new players to go straight for the Ultimate Edition to extend the game time.
