Godwoken, get ready to use your source magic on consoles in a few months. The Kickstarter project was originally being developed only for PC audiences, however with the success of the game, Larian Studios are working on console versions.
Larian Studios' Divinity: Original Sin 2 is coming out on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in August 2018. The game reached essential status in the PC gaming community if RPG fans have anything to say about it. Originally a Kickstarter project which was fully funded within only 12 hours, reaching it's original goal of $500,000. After that, stretch goals were added and all funded successfully.
This gave Larian Studios the opportunity and responsibility to deliver a worthwhile experience to the Kickstarter backers and future players. Upon release, the game received universal acclaim from many critics, so it's no surprise that Larian are making console ports to further their audience.
This time around however, the ports will not be developed and published by Larian Studios, but will hand the publisher's torch to Bandai Namco Entertainment. The PC version of the game already supports full controller gameplay with drop in co-op and a cooperative campaign. Another thing worth mentioning is that Divinity Original Sin 2 supports split-screen couch co-op on PC and will have the same support on consoles.
Porting the game to consoles should be a relatively easy task for Belgian game developers Larian Studios since most of the gameplay issues revolving around controller use are non-existent.
In Divinity: Original Sin 2, players will take control of the Godwoken, a character chosen to become the next Divinity. Essentially, to become a god. It's combat is turn-based and extremely tactical with a few notes of the famous Dungeons and Dragons RNG for fun.
There is no confirmed Nintendo Switch version, but Nintendo probably won't be letting a bloody, gore-y and violence packed game so easily on their console knowing their 3rd party choices. We'll see if they crack under pressure, and inform you of the events following up to the release of the game.
