Red Faction Guerrilla is turning about for another revolution against the Earth Defence Force. THQ Nordic have announced a remastered version of the game is coming in Q2 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The unfortunate official name of the game will be Red Faction Guerilla Re-Mars-tered. Let that sink in for a moment. According to THQ Nordic's press release, ''destruction'' will remain the game's ''middle name'' , alluding to the game's environment destruction that was revolutionary back in 2009.
Red Faction Guerrilla is set 50 years after the events of the original Red Faction, as you claim the role of an insurgent fighter once again in order to stand up for the oppressed miners on Mars. While the Earth Defence Force were an allied faction in the original game, they are now the main antagonists. They have been pressured by Earth's corporation to retrieve resources from Mars at any cost due to Earth's high demand. This resulted in Martian miners being under constant state of forced labour which prompted another revolution.
The game will feature, well, the same features it originally had. As the name suggest, guerrilla warfare is an integral part of the gameplay as it is the player who decides who, when, where and how to fight. Since the player character is a mining engineer, it goes without saying that they will be creating improvised weapons but the star of the show is, of course, the hammer.
Players who might be playing a Red Faction game for the first the may want to check up on the game's abundant lore. If you don't feel like playing through previous titles in the franchise, a quick dash through the game's fandom wiki will do the job.
As far as the Re-Mars-tered features go, it's just a generic remaster with reworked textures, shaders and post processing, improved shadow rendering and lighting. Native 4K resolution will also be available, but THQ Nordic are not yet sure if they will add it to console ports of the game.
