The 2017 indie title worthy of a AAA ranking, previously only released on PS4 and PC has finally been announced for Xbox One, so get your controllers ready to experience some psychological trauma. And don't forget your headphones!
The Xbox One audience was left out from the release of Ninja Theory's action/adventure title up until the recent announcement that they have been working hard on the Xbox One port for a while and will be bringing it on 11 April 2018.
The spiritual successor to the PS3 game Heavenly Sword, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice hit the PS4 and PC audience in August 2017, and players were mostly surprised at the level of quality the indie title delivered.
Hellblade will feature an enhanced version for the Xbox One X with three performance modes. A High Performance mode which will run the game at 60 frames per second, an Enhanced Visuals mode which will add as yet unsaid special effects and boosted visual quality for the perfect artistic experience, and finally the High Resolution mode, which will run the game with up to 4k HDR.
For those unfamiliar with the setting of the game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is set in the 8th century and follows as players help Senua, the titular Pictish heroine, muck through the harsh environment of Helheim facing many Nordic demons as well as her own demons in order to save the soul of her loved one.
What makes the game specific is the audio/visual psychological factor of the experience, as it is best played with headphones. The reason why headphones are so important to the experience of the game are the "Furies", which are voices Senua hears which interrupt her thoughts and say evil and mean things to her in order to stop her from reaching her goal.
It is very much a personal and scary experience to have voices in your head, quite literally.
