Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries trailer claims to be all about biomes, and they indeed look swell, but we all know what we wanted to see when we clicked on that video - guns, more guns, mechs, explosions and XXL, not necessarily in that order.

Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries marks Piranha Games' return on the franchise, with the company having been behind the earlier instalment - Mechwarior Online.

Now, there are two trailers here - the one we're all looking at, which is Mechwarrior beasts going at it mercilessly, and the one you'll see after you've had your fill. Yeah, it took us at least two plays to start noticing the environment in Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries, in spite of the title.

Mechwarrior lets users plow into their enemies across lush green fields and vast forests, as well as more dystopian settings. There seem to be some redish, Mars-like installations as well as just natural landmarks that make for interesting combat.

In case you're not familiar with the franchise, you should know that Mechwarrior has been around for ages. While the first Mechwarrior title dates back to 1989, the actual universe and lore go back as far as 1984.

Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries is not your average shooter - the game requires patience and calculated moves, instead of standard quick reflexes required by most modern first person shooters. So if you're looking for some quick, run and gun entertainment, Mechwarrior may not be your cup of tea.

The game comes out in December 2018 and should take up the mantle from Mechwarrior Online, which, although a decent game in its own right, failed to attract anyone other that long time fans of the franchise. Let's hope Piranha Games learned from their earlier work on the franchise, because we're probably hopping into a mech of our own come December.
