Horizon Zero Dawn took home the Writers Guild of America award for its writing. John Gonzalez, Horizon Zero Dawn's narrative director accepted the award on behalf of Guerilla Games along with lead writer Benjamin McCaw. Monster Hunter World's next Horizon-themed Event Quest will go live at the end of February.
Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn has won the Writers Guild of America award in the "Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing" category. WGA recognises movies, video games and TV writers every year and Horizon: Zero Dawn's story went up against that of Madden NFL 18: Longshot, and Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow.
The category looked like this:
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow
Horizon: Zero Dawn - Won
Madden NFL 18: Longshot
In the world of TV and movies, Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale won both the Best Drama and New Series categories. Veep won Best Comedy Series, and Bojack Horseman's "Time's Arrow" episode won in the Animation category. Bojack didn't comment, but I'm sure he found something to whine about. Jordan Peele's Get Out won the award for Best Original Screenplay.
John Gonzalez, Horizon Zero Dawn's narrative director accepted the award on behalf of Guerilla Games along with lead writer Benjamin McCaw. Mr Gonzalez said: "As writers who care deeply about the craft of telling stories, it's incredibly exciting for us to be receiving this award in the company of so many other writers whose work we admire and appreciate". He then dedicated the award to their mothers who "did not live to see this tonight".
Gonzales added: "It is no coincidence that their sons went on to write an epic with a strong female protagonist in which human love in general, and maternal love in particular loomed so large. We learned that from them. This is for them. Thank you, they are not forgotten."
Both Horizon Zero Dawn and its expansion, Frozen Wilds, have captivated AltChar's own Heavy Messing, who gave the expansion a rare AltChar score of 10/10. Aloy has made an appearance in Monster Hunter World as well.
The first part of Monster Hunter World's Horizon: Zero Dawn crossover event may be over, but the second part is on the way in a couple of weeks. The next Horizon-themed Event Quest is called The Proving. The quest will begin on 28 February and go on until 05 March, 2018.
