Blizzard recently shared that Lunar New Year 2018 will be the Year of the Dog. The event will kick off on 08 February and probably bring a new game mode, as well as some new skins and sprays.

Overwatch’s Lunar New Year seasonal event will be back on 08 February. The happy news was shared via the game's Twitter account:

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2018 is the Year of the Dog, so it's not outside the realm of reason to expect a canine themed exclusive game mode. Overwatch's first event in 2017 was the Year of the Rooster celebration. That one brought a game mode titled Capture the Rooster. The team battle, set on Lijiang Tower, prominently featured a rooster on its flag.

As we've previously seen in other events that have made a comeback in 2017, there will probably be some kind of a new twist added to the old Lunar New Year formula. The Summer Games revamped Lucioball, Halloween Terror gave us an addition to the Dr. Junkenstein campaign lore and four new heroes to play as in the special game mode.

This year’s Winter Wonderland gave us a whole new game mode with Mei’s Yeti Hunt, so maybe this one will have its focus on Mei as well. Dedicated game mode or not, Mei fans will always welcome the Lunar New Year event with open arms.

The return of a dedicated game mode has not yet been confirmed, but we do know that every event brings its own seasonal skins. The new skins will be available as loot box drops during the event. The last year's event has had skins inspired by the classic tale Journey to the West, alongside those based around the Lunar New Year event in general.

The next event on the list is Overwatch's own Uprising.
