Niantic kicked off this holiday season with a bang and a bunch of new Pokemon. A new - festive - Pikachu has been added to Pokemon GO. Water-type and Ice-type Pokemon from the Hoenn region have been spotted around the world.
Niantic decided to celebrate the holiday season by releasing a slightly different Pikachu into the wild. This one has a very festive hat. This year, the little yellow guy brought along some "frosty friends".
More ice-type Pokemon have been popping up left and right thanks to the new Weather system that has recently been introduced to the game. The festive Pikachu brought even more reminders that it's freezing outside: "In addition to more Ice-type Pokemon appearing around the world, additional Water-type and Ice-type Pokemon originally discovered in the Hoenn region in the Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire video games will also begin appearing in Pokemon GO for the very first time."
The fun doesn't even think of stopping there. As an added bonus, the first PokeStop you visit each day between 22 and 25 December at 9:00 PM GMT will grant you a single-use Egg Incubator with your first Photo Disc spin.
The in-game shop was also touched by the holiday spirit. It was consensual. The interaction resulted in special boxes that "feature the best deals of the year".
Starting on 21 December at 9:00 PM GMT and ending on 25 December at the same time, the special boxes will feature items such as Super Incubators, Lure Modules, and the all-new Star Pieces, which earn bonus Stardust for 30 minutes when activated.
A new set of boxes will follow on 25 December at 9:00 PM GMT. The new boxes will contain items such as Premium Raid Passes, Super Incubators, and Star Pieces. This offer will end on 04 January, 2018.
