In anticipation of the official release, PlayerUnknown has really kicked into gear as Battlegrounds test servers are getting a new desert map and a shotgun exclusive to the map. Interestingly enough, the company was admittedly taken aback by the amount and sheer scope of cheating methodology, so expect them to take more interest in the matter pretty soon.

Battlegrounds test servers went offline over the weekend so as to implement the new changes and it coincides with PUBG’s announcement for the second round of testing. With the announcement of the game getting a mobile iteration soon, it appears PlayerUnknown really has their hands full at the moment.

There’s really not much to say about the desert map that hasn't been said before - after all, it was announced a while back and we covered it here and here. The shotgun in question looks too be a sawed off one, which usually means more damage than a standard shotgun, but at a reduced range due to higher spread. Of course it’s just speculation but giving players a sawed off shotgun exclusive for a map with so many flat stretches seems a bit prankish, does it not?

In a recent Q&A, the company admitted to not having been well prepared to deal with cheating but promised it will take the matter much more seriously. While I’m compelled to laugh off the company’s naivety, for the lack of a better word, it is a valuable lesson - some people just want to win, no matter what it takes. The company is now putting a team on anti-cheating watch and added that they “are well aware that an anti-cheat effort is an endless fight. However, we will never be discouraged and keep working hard to create a frustration-free play environment."
