Obsidian Entertainment and Versus Evil will be teaming up to publish Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. The sequel has been decked out with more detailed graphics, deeper mechanics and a much bigger boat than its crowdfunded predecessor.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is going to be published by Obsidian Entertainment in partnership with Versus Evil.

"Pillars of Eternity and Obsidian are practically synonymous with quality RPGs and we couldn’t be happier to work with their team and their community in supporting Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire”, said Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil.

Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart added: "We are thrilled to be working with the team at Versus Evil on Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, the first sequel we’ve ever made into one of our own IPs. Partnering with a team that is as passionate as we are about making Pillars of Eternity outstanding has already been such a gratifying and exciting experience."

"In Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, players embark on a dangerous voyage of discovery as they hunt down a god to save their own souls" says the press release, rather ominously.

The award winning gameplay that fans got to experience in the original Pillars of Eternity has been built upon and expanded. To that end, the new game has been decked out with vastly more detailed graphics, deeper game mechanics, increased player choice and reactivity, a new companion relationship system, streamlined combat, and an entirely new, hand-crafted adventure.

According to the press release, in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire you'll travel by ship to the Deadfire Archipelago, where nearly every port seems to hide new surprises. The archipelago will hold new races, exotic islands (duh) and powerful factions. You'll also need to defend your ships against pirates.

Back in January 2017, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire reached its funding goal of £813.450 in less than one day (22 hours/57minutes) on Fig. The game is set to launch on PC, Mac and Linux in early 2018.
