Thq Nordic and Experiment 101 are working on a post-apocalyptic kung fu fable. The game will let you customize your character and your weapons by re-coding your genetic structure. Biomutant will launch sometime next year.
Thq Nordic and Experiment 101 are working on a new project named Biomutant. The game is an action RPG for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Experiment 101 is an independent game development studio from Stockholm. It was co-founded in 2015 by Stefan Ljungqvist, a former studio art director and game director at Avalanche Studios. Ljungqvist was one of the key members on the team behind Mad Max and the Just Cause series.
Let's see what Biomutant is all about. Biomutant is an RPG that lets its players change their characters' abilities and appearance with "powerful mutations, bionic prosthetics and weapons". In the game you can grow claws, sprout wings, or attach a robotic leg. Every "mutation" will in turn have an effect on how your character behaves in the game.
Being a "kung-fu fable" Biomutant blends together melee martial arts and firearms. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic universe (I'm shocked.) and it gives you a lot of options when it comes to moving around without having to use your feet or whichever attachment you end up slapping on there: mechs, paragliders, balloons, mounts, jet skis and more.
Biomutant will have you mix shooting, melee combat and the powers you've developed by mutating. The mutations will be "recodable" in order to "change the way you look and play". In addition to creating your character, you'll also be able to "mutate" your weapon. "Mix and match parts to create your own unique single or double-handed slash, crush and pierce melee weapons."
The story is that "the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots" and you have to stand up and unite the warring tribes "or bring them all down". United, you can cut the tree down and build a shopping mall in its place.
Biomutant is set to release in 2018. It will be playable at the Thq Nordic Booth at Gamescom as well as at PAX West.
