PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has sold 8 million copies according to Brendan Greene, and is now right behind DOTA 2 on SteamCharts pushing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the third spot. An Xbox version of the game should be available before the end of the year.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has sold 8 million copies according to the game's director Brendan PlayerUnknown Greene. SteamSpy data suggests that this number is closer to 7,3 million, but the game's creator should know better than SteamSpy, right? Even if the figures he quotes are off, there is little doubt that the game will pass the 8 million mark soon.

The battle royale shooter now occupies the second spot on Steam's current most played games list, and if the game continues growing its playerbase the way it has so far, there is little doubt that DOTA 2's top spot will be threatened before the end of the year.

Bluehole Studio will be partnered up with Microsoft in order to bring the game to Xbox One. During the Gamescom livestream Greene has confirmed the studio's close collaboration with Microsoft, with the aim of adapting the game for the console in 2017. There is no word of an official console release date, but odds are good that the two companies will work hard towards an Xbox Game Preview version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in time to capitalise on some sweet pre-Christmas sales.

PUBG is a few hundred peak concurrent players short of hitting the 700,000 mark. This puts the title very close to reaching DOTA 2's current peak player count of about 880,000.
