Crackdown 3 was scheduled to release 7 November 2017, but the game's release has now been delayed to an unspecified date during Spring 2018. Crackdown 3 was initially supposed to release in 2016, and Microsoft hasn't really named a concrete reason for the delay.

Crackdown 3 seems to be imitating another famously delayed game with the number 3 in its title. Microsoft announced Crackdown 3 back in 2014 and the game was supposed to arrive during the second half of 2016. Fast-forward a few delays and it now looks like players will have to wait until Spring 2018 to see whether all the delays were really worth it or not.

The reason for the delay is somewhat obscure. Microsoft and the small corral of studios working on the game name vague reasons such as being able to provide the best experience possible and allowing players to immerse themselves in a living world.

"...we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that’s campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018", Shannon Loftis, Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager told Polygon.

The delay may really be some major redesign, or MIcrosoft may have realised that a different and far less competitive release window could help the game perform better on the sales front, hence the at the right time part of the statement.

We will know more when the pre-release marketing hype for Crackdown 3 attains final form in early 2018,
