Atari aren't teasing, they are just being 'careful'

Atari apparently know what colours their recently teased Ataribox console will be shipping with, but haven't made their mind up about specs and the like just yet. What has been hinted at so far looks a lot like Nintendo's mini consoles.

Atari have released some actual images of their upcoming Ataribox console, which was previously teased during this year's E3. The device will be available with a wooden or glass design, have a raised back and be ribbed all around.

So far the pictures show 4 USB ports and a HDMI slot. No word yet on specs or games other than a vague statement that Atari "will be delivering classic and current gaming content".

The PR speak doesn't stop there. The company has decided to go full frontal sainthood with their announcement so far. Saying things like, "We're not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we've opted to share things step by step as we bring Ataribox to life, and to listen closely to Atari community feedback as we do".

A load of nonsense really. The hardware's sales will be heavily dependant on the amount of nostalgia Atari's marketing team manages to stir up, unless there is a reason to tease design and look prior to specs and games I'm missing.

In all likelihood, this is Atari's attempt at replicating Nintendo's nostalgia mining exploits of late. Whether the plan will work or not is still entirely uncertain, but either way it will be fun to watch Atari trying to struggle back into relevance.
