Keystone is an upcoming FPS/TCG hybrid by Warframe creators Digital Extremes. Closed alpha testing is set to begin this week and you have a better chance at alpha access if you bring along 4 friends willing to do some testing.
Canadian developer Digital Extremes has managed to turn Warframe into somewhat of a sleeper success in spite of its detractors. The studio's follow up game is another free-to-play project called Keystone. It sports a 70's retro aesthetic and promises to blend first-person team based shooting with deck building.
"With the look and feel of the 1970’s retro-pulp era, Keystone will take players on a journey through a multi-verse that begins on the starting square of an intriguing, mystical board game. Players will wield unique decks of cards throughout the match that offer handy benefits, amazing powers, and fearsome weapons. With timing and resourcefulness, personally customised decks give players the upper hand in battle both individually and when strategically coupled with teammates’ decks", is how the Digital Extremes describes the game in their official announcement.
A closed alpha test of the game will be taking place over the weekend between 23 - 26 May, and you can apply for a spot on the first-wave testing squads here. Interested players who manage to invite some friends for testing purposes will have first dibs, and those selected for the first testing phase will be notified 25 May 2017.
There isn't much to go on regarding Keystone at this point, especially not visually, but the provided artwork looks far out and right on. It will be interesting to see how Digital Extremes intends to translate the 70's retro sci-fi feel into a 3D shooter game.
