Rockstar Games have confirmed Red Dead Redemption 2 will release next Spring. The studio also apologised for pushing the release date further down into 2018, citing the game being designed from the ground up to suit the latest console generation as the reason for the delay.

Red Dead Redemption 2 finally has a release window and is set to launch sometime in Spring 2018. The long awaited sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games of the past console generation was announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is unclear at this point whether there will be separate versions for the PlayStation 4 Pro or Microsoft's latest console, still under the working title Scorpio. GTA V famously had separate releases for two console generations and a lengthy delay preceding the PC release. There is no word yet of a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 however.

"We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer", Rockstar Games explained.

The delay in question is a result of the studio's efforts to make the game their first title designed from the ground up for the latest console generation.

The in-game screenshots look like Rockstar have gone to great lengths to utilise the latest hardware available on the console market.

The first Red Dead Redemption is often described as "GTA in the Wild West", and the underrepresented setting combined with Rockstar's usual dedication to bringing a polished title to the market have secured the game a cult following. The sequel is one of the most anticipated games of the current console generation.
