Torn Banner Studios is opening up its beta for Mirage: Arcane Warfare to all interested parties over the coming weekend, in preparation for the games official launch on 23 May 2017.

Mirage: Arcane Warfare is coming our way courtesy of Torn Banner Studios, the same people who made Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. In preparation for the game's launch, Mirage's beta has an open door policy throughout this weekend. All you need is a Steam account and some free time in order to participate.

AltChar spent some time with Mirage: Arcane Warfare during closed beta. To simplify matters down to the point of being irresponsible, it's pretty much Chivalry: Medieval Warfare 2.0.

Building on that very solid core, Mirage adds spells, game modes, more depth to classes and an art-style that is a lot more fun to look at than its predecessor, without tampering too much with its basic concepts. This is a good thing - If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

The game's Arabian Nights aesthetic is a breath of fresh air, especially in combination with almost but not really cell-shaded visuals.

The open-beta weekend is a great opportunity to make up your mind about a potential purchase. The game is set to launch on 23 May 2017, if nothing disastrous happens during the beta. Two versions are up for pre-order via Steam at the time of writing, a standard and special edition, which will set you back £22.99 and £29.99 respectively.
