System Shock 3 lead and industry veteran Warren Spector talked about the state of the project and shared some concept art in a Twitch livestream hosted by the game's publisher Starbreeze Studios.
OtherSide Entertainment has confirmed that work on System Shock 3 has begun in August last year. The first concept art for the game has now seen the light of day in a a Twitch livestream where Warren Spector, the project lead and man behind the first System Shock game, talks about the current state of the project.
Spector said that 5 characters have survived the previous games and that System Shock 3 will in part be exploring what happened to these characters, also challenging fans to figure out which 5 characters he is actually referring to. He also claimed that there are some design features already in place for the game, which are so innovative that Spector himself isn't sure how they will be received.
Quite a number of games have cited System Shock as one of their main inspirations, most famous among them being BioShock, and the original game's influence can be felt as far as the recent Prey.
A remake of the first System Shock from 1994 is also in the works by Night Dive Studios and is scheduled for a Q2 2018 release, so players who missed the original will get a chance to acquaint themselves with the setting a good while before System Shock 3 arrives.
