Starbreeze Studios delayed their The Walking Dead co-op FPS yet again. The reason: they want "the title reaches its full potential and drive our original vision a further step". A Twitch stream about the game is scheduled for 10 May.

Starbreeze Studios, owners of the developer studio Overkill Software, made an announcement recently, saying that their take on The Walking Dead game has been delayed. Once more. Overkill is credited as the developer of Payday, a co-op first person shooter. They have been hard at work developing a game based on the highly popular The Walking Dead series created by Robert Kirkman.

The game was announced in 2014, and Washington was set to fall in 2016. Since then, The Walking Dead has been delayed into 2017 but we now know that Washington still has another year or so, since it was delayed again. The new release date is now set somewhere in the late 2018.

When the game appeared at E3 2015, it served as a proof of concept for Starbreeze's VR headset, which is set to go into production at the end of this year. For now. We were promised the widest FOV in the world: a 210 degree horizontal field of view, 5120x1440 resolution, thanks to dual 5.5-inch displays and custom Fresnel-based optics.

When The Walking Dead got delayed last year, it was due to developers' plans to launch the game simultaneously in Asian markets. This time, the announcement is in Swedish but I have a very good friend called Google translate who, well, translated the text into English:

Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint said: "Together with the development team of OVERKILL's The Walking Dead, we have decided to extend the production schedule so that the title reaches its full potential and drive our original vision a further step. Together with Skybound Entertainment, we are fully dedicated to releasing an unforgettable experience for fans throughout World and then continue to support it with high quality content in coming years,"

What can possibly go wrong? Every delayed game eventually goes on to become an instant classic, right. Most recent example that comes to mind is Syberia 3. At the very least, nobody will notice if the zombie moans and grunts aren't synced up perfectly with their lips.

Starbreeze will hold a Starstream on 10 May, in order to give "an insight into the development of OVERKILL's The Walking Dead". More information (and a countdown clock) about the event can be found here.
