Activision Blizzard released their earnings report and, boy, it's a doozie. Overwatch has been named the "8th billion-dollar franchise in Activision Blizzard's portfolio".

Just a couple of weeks shy of its first anniversary, Overwatch made over a billion dollars for its developers. To say that this was a good year for Overwatch would be a massive understatement.

Never a dull moment for the Overwatch players as the game has had a constant pour-in of events and heroes during its lifetime. Maps, well not so much, but they're getting there. With the third competitive season underway, the game shows no signs of stopping.

Blizzard shared that Overwatch had surpassed 30 million registered players. Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard said:

"This quarter we delivered record revenues, earnings per share and cash flow, and over-performed guidance." He added "Among the drivers of our results was Overwatch, which now has over 30 million players globally."

Overwatch is now "the 8th billion-dollar franchise in Activision Blizzard's portfolio".

In total, the company raked in some £340.28 million, in the first quarter of the year. In percentages, that's a 22 percent increase in comparison to the year before. "For the quarter, operating cash flows were a Q1 record of $411 million, up 22% year-over-year."

Overwatch has become a part of pop culture, as even my little sister (the last game she played was snake on Nokia 3310) knows what it's about. She likes Widowmaker.

Jeff Kaplan and the rest of the Overwatch team take great care of their fans, and are constantly communicating with them via Reddit, or the official forums. That level of mindful communication and listening to what people need and want, is bound to produce a fruitful cooperation which will give both parties what they came for, and then some.

Overwatch is celebrating its first year anniversary on 24 May and a patch was recently released in PTR. The patch will probably go live one day before the celebration.
