Nintendo listed the games coming to Switch this year during the Direct event last night. From Splatoon 2 to Payday 2, the list is quite a lengthy one. They announced some of the release dates and some general time frames for the games on the list.

Yesterday's Nintendo Direct highlighted Arms and Splatoon 2 as the most anticipated games coming this year, but also showcased a bunch of others to get excited about.

Let's start with Arms, a fighting game in which the heroes' arms look like coiled up slinkies. Nintendo showcased some footage of their latest IP, explaining the list of boxing glove types and some elemental effect which will be available to the players. Arms will hit the Switch on 16 June.

Next up, we have Splatoon 2, coming 21 July. Nintendo announced a new PvE mode and three themed amiibos.

Now for the headlines.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has already been described in detail in an overview trailer Nintendo posted to their YouTube channel back in March. The game will launch on 28 April.

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers will boast two new characters: Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. The coolest thing: you can now blast enemies with a Hadoken punch you make by motioning your hands as if you were really doing it, with the help of your Joy-Con controllers. Ultra Street Fighter 2 is set for a release on 26 May.

Minecraft needs zero introduction. The game is coming to Switch in both creative and survival mode on 11 May and it'll include a content pack of pre - made Mario areas and characters.

Sonic Forces will be making its Switch debut in time for the Holiday season of 2017. Sonic Mania is also coming to Switch, with a couple of extra stages and some vamped up old favourites. Mania will be available for Switch this summer.

Project Mekuru is a working title of a game which looks very interesting, in spite of its simple premise. The game works like this: stomp a tile and change it to your colour; change more tiles than your opponents and you win. There are some booster packs to be discovered, and boy, this game looks fun. Project Mekuru, or whatever its name ends up being, is coming this summer.

Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star launches on 25 July.

Disgaea 5 will soon have a demo lurking around the Nintendo e-shop, and the full game will launch on 23 May in Limited and Standard editions.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is a mash-up of Tetris and a kind of match three mechanics, which requires you to make stacks  of the same coloured bricks (Puyos) in order to wipe them from the board. Solo and multiplayer arcade demos are available at the Nintendo e-shop.

Monopoly is also coming to Switch, this fall. Well that's going to make your TV one hell of an expensive board to flip when someone goes bankrupt. Just sayin'.

Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition will launch some time this year. Sine Mora EX is going to join Sonic Mania and Project Mekuru as a Switch game coming to us this summer.

Payday 2 is coming to Switch later this year, four years after it made its debut on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Namco Museum will bring Pac-Man, Galaga and Rolling Thunder to Switch. The games will be playable using both the horizontal display, and the vertical layout for that genuine arcade feel. The museum opens this summer.

Come 19 May, a standalone Switch dock will be up for grabs. Why would you need another one? Well maybe you want to connect it to a separate TV, without going through the hassle of unplugging you main set-up.
