JonTron, a "guy who likes to yell at weird games and movies" on YouTube, recently shared his less-than-popular views on immigration and ethnicity, and the stunt cost him a number of subscribers and a listing in the cast of an upcoming Playtonic game.
Playtonic's Yooka-Laylee will see a release on 11 April. The game will be released for all platforms except for the Switch. Release date for the Switch version is still unknown.
The developer team came together after working on Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata and Kameo: Elements of Power.
After Yooka-Laylee was successfully Kickstarted, the team reached out to a famous YouTuber JonTron and offered him a minor character to voice.
JonTron accepted and everything was going great.
But in the light of the YouTuber's latest controversial comments on Twitch streams and Twitter, the developer decided to remove him from the game in an upcoming content update.
Unfortunate to see Playtonic remove me from Yooka Laylee, but I understand their decision. I wish them the best with their launch!— JonTron (@JonTronShow) March 23, 2017
After the news broke, several backers asked about a refund on the Steam forums but were faced with a ban.
