Instant Games is a cross-platform gaming experience built on HTML5 and accessible through Facebook Messenger and Facebook's News Feed. The games are free to play and don't include any interruptive ads or in-game microtransactions.
Available for both mobile and web, Instant Games allows the user to play games without having to download them separately. Users with Android v5 and iOS v8 or newer can access Instant Games from their smartphones, through Facebook Messenger or News Feed. The Facebook mobile app has 1.7 billion users and approximately 1 billion of those also use Messenger. This allows games published on Facebook's platform to reach an extremely wide audience.
A short while ago Facebook published a list, naming its games of the year for 2016.
Endless Lake by Spil games is on the list as one of the best instant games. Since Instant Games launched on November the 29th, the bightly-coloured platformer has had 12 million unique users and has been played 33 million times, according to the numbers on the publisher's website. Facebook itself has yet to publish any numbers relating to Instant Games platform.
Instant Games is a fairly new concept for many players, but the competitive nature and accessibility of the experience may make it an interesting alternative to more traditional methods of mobile game distribution.
