X: Rebirth to receive a VR Edition; Egosoft announces that a yet untitled X instalment is in the works
X: Rebirth was s small scale disaster. The developers at Egosoft promptly apologised for the universally panned game and proceeded to patch and fix their reborn. X: Rebirth is now in version 4.10, as a result of those efforts, and the newest goal for the developers is bringing the game to VR.
X: Rebirth VR Edition will be a standalone title, building upon the Home of Light DLC, with the aim of modifying the game's features to suit a VR experience. Most of the changes come in the form of a re-designed universe and economy, a new graphics engine, new content, pace and balancing - and a UI better suited for VR.
The December newsletter also makes mention of a new X title in the works: "However we also realise that there are still many unfulfilled wishes, some of which would require extensive changes that couldn't be implemented in the existing game. Many of these are things we would also like to see in a space game and these, along with the foundations laid by all the work and feedback that went into X Rebirth, have been the basis for the big project that we have been working on for the last few years: a real X4. "
The VR version of Rebirth is expected to arrive on Early Access in the first half of 2017, and owners of the non-VR version have been promised a discount.
