The Last Guardian fast approaching with 6th of December launch date. No further delays in sight.
While it might be nice to have another delay, you know - for old times sake, The Last Guardian seems to be well on its way and will reach PlayStation 4 consoles in early December. The last entry on a long list of delays was a short while back, when the launch date was postponed from the 25th of October to the 6th of December, now putting it on the dwindling end of the pre-Christmas release mayhem.
Such a move would imply that genDESIGN and SIE Japan Studio are still confident that the games quality will allow it to prevail sale-wise, despite a frustratingly long tradition of delays. Ironing out some bugs and polishing the finished product were stated as reasons for this final nudge further down the release schedule for 2016.
MCV talked to Sony product manager Joe Palmer about the game. “I can’t comment with specific details, but I can say that pre-orders for The Last Guardian are exceeding expectations,” Palmer told MCV. “We’ve seen a really positive response to the Collector’s Edition in particular, which despite its higher price point proves there’s a huge appetite for the game.”
Times have changed, a lot, in the almost 10 years it took for the game to finally hit stores. Some of the gameplay and narrative concepts, that were fresh and innovative in the days when the game was announced, might not seem much of a selling point nowadays. Especially to the younger generation of gamers, unfamiliar with Fumito Uedas previous work on ICO and Shadow of The Colossus, The Last Guardian will have a lot to prove and find ways of justifying the enormous amount of time that went into its development.
The Last Guardian will release as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. A collectors edition is also available for purchase, including a statue of the protagonists along with other goodies.
