Long overdue People Can Fly and Gearbox team-up coming April 2017
Bulletstorm and Duke Nukem Forever were released in the same year back in 2011. The strange thing is, that at the time, Bulletstorm felt more like a Duke Nukem game than Duke Nukem Forever did. Bulletstorm did have a few problems, like the frustratingly obvious controller-first design approach. But overall, People Can Fly delivered exactly what they are renowned for; a first person shooter willing to think outside of current-gen conventions, with one foot firmly in the realm old school shooter sensibilities.
The addition of Duke as an 'optional' protagonist for Bulletstorms HD/4K facelift seems a glaringly obvious move. In terms of tounge-in-cheek humour, fluidity of shooter mechanics and sheer amount of gore, the two games are a match made in heaven. Aside from the remaster and update for all things technical, the Full Clip Edition promisees a new Overkill campaign mode - giving the player a full weapons arsenal right from the start, and new levels for the skill-based Echo game mode.
As of now, the addition of Duke is gated behind the pre-order version of the remaster. That is a somewhat questionable move since audiences have shown some reluctance toward spending money on pre-orders this year, and the star power of Duke is one of the main attractions of the Full Clip Edition anyway. So why put a pre-order shaped wall between Mr. Nukem and your audience? He is just going to fire a pirate-bay-charged rocket at it anyway.
Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is coming to Playstation 4, xBox One and Windows on April 7th 2017. Make sure you are all out of gum by then.
