Funcom and The Bearded Ladies announced the price tag on Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden complete along with prices for different editions and pre-order perks. The game will not be priced as a AAA title, as standard edition will cost $34,99.
Mutant Year One: Road to Eden will have a deluxe edition though, which will go for $54,99. It includes a desktop wallpaper, digital artbook, digital soundtrack and a digital copy of the Mutant Year Zero pen-and-paper RPG book.
Pre-ordering a standard edition will let players taste the game three days before official launch while deluxe edition pre-order will offer the same but with beta access. It is still unknown when the beta will start though as the release date isn't confirmed yet but the release window is set in the second half of 2018, which we are already threading upon.
According to Haraldur Thormundsson, the CEO of The Bearded Ladies, the game will be a unique mix of turn based tactical combat combined with freeform exploration, stealth included. His statement concluded with the generic promise of "something new and different gamers have never experienced before". My bet is gamers have, in fact, experienced similar aspects in other games before, but only not packaged in a single game. Any takers?
Either way, Unreal Engine will be powering Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, which is part of the reason why the game looks neat and although post-apocalyptic, its scenery is still rather beautiful. The game has been confirmed for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 but it is not known if the launch will be simultaneous across all platforms.
The trailer above offered a little bit more information on the characters players will be controlling. These protagonists have undergone mutations that allowed them to survive the dystopian future's harsh conditions as well perform neat little tricks to give them an edge in combat. You can also read up more about them and check out about half an hour of gameplay footage in our previous article.
