Avowed is Obsidian's next big AAA RPG set in the world of Pillars of Eternity

Obsidian Entertainment's next big RPG Avowed could be launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime between March and July 2022, according to rumours.

Xbox exclusive Avowed is one of the most anticipated RPGs at the moment but sadly, we haven't been hearing much about this one ever since Obsidian dropped that gorgeous CGI teaser trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2020.

We haven't seen any gameplay whatsoever and there's nothing on the release date either. However, it does look like Avowed fans could finally get some information on the game this year.

Spanish Xbox YouTuber and insider eXtas1s, reveals in his recent video that Avowed is currently targeting Q2 2024 release window. If the information is indeed correct and development doesn't hit any major obstacles on its way towards release, this would mean Avowed could be launching either in April, May or June 2024.

Obviously, you should take this information with a dose of scepticism, just like any other rumour, leak or unconfirmed info. Having said that, reliable industry sources like Bloomberg's Jason Schreier have previously claimed on ResetEra that 2024 is a realistic release window for Avowed.

So it does look like there's at least a probable fire/smoke ratio in this rumour. We reckon Xbox and Obsidian would give us an update on Avowed this summer at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase if this exciting new RPG is indeed coming in the first half of 2024.

And while Obsidian and Xbox were mostly quiet about Avowed so far, leakers have been quite busy, revealing some of the features that will be in the game as well as a screenshot of a very early build. WindowsCentral's Jez Corden reported on two-handed spell casting, and some familiar spells from Pillars of Eternity games. The game is reported to have a vibrant tone with "luminescent cave mushrooms and verdant forests awash with gigantic flora".

Obsidian Entertainment describe Avowed as their next epic, first-person RPG set in the fantasy world of Eora, the universe of Pillars of Eternity games. Avowed is exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem and will be launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Game Pass.
