Nvidia's upcoming GPU specs have started leaking apparently as people are supposedly getting info on the specs of the upcoming GeForce RTX 3080 that will boast up to a staggering 20 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the remaining specs aren't as impressive.
GeForce GPU during the Turing architecture generations have probably been the biggest barrier the gamers faced when choosing GPUs but there are also those who purchase cream of the crop, no matter what. The good news for them is that the new best will feature up to 20GB GDDR6 RAM, just in case they got bored with 2080 Ti already.
The bad news is that the mysterious new GPU which is supposed to be RTX 3080 will be worse in everything else. According to the leaks spotted by MyDrivers and relayed by Tweak Town , there are two new GPUs in the Ampere family - GA103 and GA104, the former of which is suspected to be RTX 3080.
According to the specs tied to GA 103, it will have two different versions - one with 10 and the other with 20GB GDDR6 RAM. However, the memory bus is 320-bit, it has 3480 stream processors and 60 SMs.
Meanwhile, the one generation old RTX 2080 Ti has 11GB GDDR RAM, 352-bit memory bus, 4352 stream processors and 68 SMs. It's not hard to see that 2080 Ti is better on every count than the 10GB RAM version of GA 103 (RTX 3080). RTX 3080 with 20GB RAM will have only that, albeit chunky advantage over the predecessor but it remains to be seen whether the upgrade will be worth it once the GPU gets released and benchmarks start kicking in.
Considering that Nvidia's pricing increases didn't look too valid compared to the performance increase of the new-gen, it will be interesting to see if RTX 3080 turns out to be another extremely priced GPU while offering marginal performance increase over 2080 Ti. AMD's RX 5950 XT is set to launch in 2020 as well which should spice up the top tier competition as it's speculated have even more RAM while not faltering on other fronts.
