The Nintendo World Championships 2017 will be held in New York. Qualifiers will be organised at select Best Buy stores all over the US. There will be two groups of contestants: 12 years and younger and 13 years and older.

Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom in New York will play host to the Nintendo World Championships 2017 tournament on 07 October 2017. "Fans of all ages from around the country have the chance to be a part of Nintendo history."

The Championships debuted back in 1990, and then made a grand return at E3 back in 2015 in Los Angeles. Fans of all ages are welcome to compete in all kinds of Nintendo games, both new and retro.

A press release explained how it all works: First, you'll need to show up to one of the select Best Buy stores starting on 19 August. Eight different locations around the country will host these qualifiers.

Players who show up will be divided into two groups, based on their age. "Both groups will play Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS." The first age group will have members younger than 12, and they will play "as Mario on the Nintendo DS "Luigi’s Mansion" course using Standard Kart, Standard Wheels and Super Glider."

The second group, 13 yeas and older, will "play as Bowser on the Game Boy Advance "Bowser Castle 1" course using Standard Kart, Standard Wheels and Super Glider."

Players with the best Time Trial entry from each group at the end of the two day qualifiers will get a chance to take part in the Nintendo World Championships 2017.

If you are not interested in the Championships, you might want to swing by a Best Buy location anyway as there will be a demo version of the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey for you to try out. Super Mario Odyssey will launch on 27 October for Switch.

"The format of the Nintendo World Championships means that anyone has a chance to become the winner," said the man with the perfect name Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
